Formed in 1991, Hagen Insurance was started with the goal of bringing the Employee Benefit tools and ideas used by large national companies to Alaskan employers of all sizes. We now provide benefits brokerage and consulting to more than four hundred Alaska companies.
Our Personal Lines Department opened in 1995 to meet client demands and broaden our product diversity. Commercial Lines were added in 1997 to meet the Business Insurance needs of current and future Employee Benefits clients. With the addition of Supplemental Lines, AFLAC and Colonial, in January of 2008, Hagen is meeting its overall goal of offering one-stop insurance shopping for all.
Hagen uses a team approach: Clients benefit from the experience and insight of more than just one person. Agents and staff keep a constant lookout for the most suitable and best carriers and plans to meet our varied client base. We have at least two agents in each department and stagger lunches so that our office remains open through the noon hour and someone familiar with an account is always available.
Hagen approaches Employee Benefits and Commercial insurance systematically by listening closely in order to understand a client's goals, devising programs to meet those goals in the most cost-effective manner and implementing and maintaining those programs through negotiations with insurers and providers, employee communications and management reports. Additionally, we actively intercede on behalf of our clients and/or their employees should they have a claim problem or policy question.
Hagen has acted as broker or consultant for some of Alaska's largest employers and associations. With the ongoing need to attract and retain high-level employees being vital to a company's continued success, we feel that our office has the staff, knowledge and procedures to help your company, or any company, meet this goal. To fulfill our first purpose of being, to bring Alaska companies the Employee Benefit tools used by national employers, we provide:
· Rigorous analysis of costs, plan design options and funding alternatives
· Compliance help with ERISA and state and federal mandates, like COBRA
· Cafeteria Plan consultation
· Workers Compensation Risk Analysis to help reduce injuries and save on premiums
· Employee communication materials and systems
· Effective and economical key person Life and Disability plans
· Unparalleled assistance for employees with claims questions
Variations in company and company size, plus market volatility, make premium benchmarks imprudent. Age, health conditions and claims activity all affect medical premiums. Commercial premiums also depend on a variety of factors:
- General Liability could use the number of patients who come through the door and their risk of slipping in the parking lot.
- Workers Compensation is based on the frequency and severity of injuries.
- Property Coverage equates with number of buildings and extent of propety owned.
Insurance is far too complex to depend solely on a written proposal. We at Hagen want to meet our prospects and clients face-to-face to review proposals and/or insurance needs and form a strategic plan of best options.
About our Founder
Robert F. Hagen; Founder of Hagen Insurance
Bob Hagen formed Hagen Insurance in 1991 to provide Alaska employers with the same Employee Benefits, i.e., life, health, disability, available to big, national companies. His business took off, leading to the addition of Personal Lines in 1995 and Commercial Lines in 1997. Bob was respected in the business community and well-liked personally, which made his untimely death in 2003, a real shock to all.
Bob graduated from Stanford, loved speed chess, poetry and art. He, with wife, Resa, and adopted twin boys, John and Nathan, enjoyed all Alaska had to offer.
Bob's integrity, work ethic and enthusiasm for all that is insurance was recognized by the creation of the annual Bob Hagen Memorial Award by fellow brokers through the Alaska Association of Health Underwriters (AAHU), which is the local chapter of the National Association (NAHU).
We are proud to carry on the Hagen name under the auspices of Ho'oilina, Inc., which means "successor."
